A wine made in collaboration between Garbolund (Annisse, Nordsjælland) and Vester Ulslev Vingaard (Lolland). This is an “Appassimento”. That is, a wine made from partly dried grapes. In this case Leon Millot from 2016 and 2018.
The wine is on the aromatic side with dark berries and plums, but also with a clear green tone beneath and dried flowers (perhaps a viol?) on the finish line. Because the aromatic nose of the wine evokes such sweet associations the the relatively dry taste may come as a surprise. The tannins are modest and ripe, and the wine displays a nice balance between freshness and the sweet fruity notes of prunes, cherry stone and blackberries. The taste lingers on for a long time.
Our Appassimento may be an exciting alternative to a certain Italian wine also made from dried grapes.
